I do not usually post my WIP images to DA, however I wanted to share this one for those who are curious about my scratchboard technique. The image is a crop of a larger 24x17.5 board featuring two striped hyenas tearing at a piece of their kill. This shows how my boards look when they are in the initial scratching phase. In this stage I am still scratching out details and preparing the board for a layer of airbrushing that will follow. The airbrushing will add more depth and allow me to create a middle grey tone on which I can re-scratch key highlight areas. This provides a greater tonal range than would normally be possible with scratchboard.
